Release Notes

Improved masking experience

We know that being able to selectively apply sharpening to specific areas of your photo is very important. That’s why we overhauled the masking experience in Sharpen AI, showcasing all of the necessary tools more prominently along the right toolbar. We also added larger, and more clear, icons for your “Add” and “Subtract” brushes.

New AI-powered auto-selection tools

We didn’t stop with just improving the layout of the masking tools in Sharpen AI. We’ve also added three powerful, new AI-powered auto-subject detection tools, making it even easier and faster to selectively apply sharpening to the most important parts of your photos. We also added a convenient “Refine” button, giving you access to the tools you’d need to make additional edits to the mask.

The three new auto-selection tools are:

Auto Subject selection

Choose Auto Subject when you want to make a selection of a general object, animal, building, etc. It’s the most well-rounded option and works extremely well for most situations.

Auto Portrait selection

Choose Auto Portrait when you know that you want your selection to target a person or people that are in your photo. This option has higher precision for selecting people, which is why it’s ideal for that use case.

Auto Landscape selection

Similar to the Auto Portrait option, selecting Auto Landscape will have much higher precision at identifying landscapes and cityscapes and is ideal for those types of photos.

Improved usability with New AI model selector and model manager

In previous versions of Sharpen AI, you had to choose a specific model and toggle between three different modes before being able to identify the best one. We wanted to make it easier to choose the best AI model for your particular photos, which is why we reimagined the model picker. Now, you have easy access to all versions of the AI models in one convenient list.

We’ve also made a significant change to how Sharpen AI manages models. A lot of the benefits users will experience will be “behind the curtains” in terms of us being able to provide smaller file size installers and the ability to update models without having to update the entire Sharpen AI application.

In this latest version on the Mac, none of the models and neither of the sliders has any affect whatsoever on the previous screen. I sweep the vertical divider left and right, and there is no difference whatsover. I’m using 3.3.1 on a Mac Mini. Is there any way for me to get a functioning earlier version of the program?

Hey there, Jeffery. If you haven’t already done so, I highly recommend upgrading to the latest version, Sharpen AI v3.2.2. That should have a fix for the issue you’re experiencing. If it still persists, then please reach out to our customer support team for further troubleshooting.

Never had a problem with any update until now. Sharpen runs fine when I don’t mask. When I do mask the preview works fine but when I apply the mask and process the image progress bar never moves. Normally it takes about 15 seconds to complete an image and return to LR. The auto select of mask just has a graphic spinning circle and never selects. Have to manually mask. I rolled back to 3.2 and have no issues. Should I try to remove the app completely and reinstall instead of just updating? 3.3 is currently unusable. I7, 32g ram, dual gtx 970’s Impressed with all apps until this update.

Hey Mark, I’m really sorry about the frustrations that you’re experiencing with Sharpen AI. By chance, have you had a chance to upgrade to the latest version 3.3.2? It has a number of bug fixes and performance improvements. If you’re still having issues with v3.3.2, then please contact our customer support team (if you haven’t already done so) for further troubleshooting.

Something I hadn’t noticed before but the the split 4 setting view is extremely sensitive to mouse click. Often I’m clicking one quater, just to put focuss on it,to change its settings, and Sharpen AI register a mouse move, so the image moves juts a littel (not percitptble), and then all the already rendered 2 other quarters revert to opriginal mode, and hence I have to re-render everything.
I’m on Mac, Big Sur, Latest Sharpen AI.

I have downloaded this 3 times now onto my MacBook Pro and there is no difference to editing. Version 3.2 was great and now I can’t get that back!
Even in demo mode, there is no change in preview, all exactly the same, to the point now I can’t use it anymore

And when will the annoying problem of pixel-shifting when using a GPU finally be fixed? We have been waiting for a solution for about 6 months now!

    • Brian Matiash November 12, 2021 at 10:29 am - Reply

I completely understand your frustration and apologize for it taking so long to resolve this issue, Claus. I’ve shared your concerns with our development team and my hope is that we’ll see a fix for this pixel shift issue soon. Thank you for your patience and understanding!

    Great work.
I am sure that if you’d train an AI model for images that are both out of focus and motion blurred, it would yield much better results than applying one after the other

Thanks for the feedback, Vincent! I’ll be sure to pass it along to the product development team for review.

OK I sorted the problem. I closed the app in task manager and restarted the app and had to log in. It works properly now!

I just updated to this version and the interface does not show up. When I try to open the app from Lightroom it does create a new image file but I have no control. Clicking on the windows shortcut does not open the app.
